A double-decker bus was destroyed by a suspected engine fire on Saturday.

The route 172 bus was engulfed by flames at around 9:20am near Honor Oak Park in Lewisham.

A Met police spokesperson said: “The bus was blocking the road in both directions and roads were closed until 1.30 when the bus was removed from the scene.”

Ken Davidson, Transport for London’s head of bus operations, said the fire was to being investigated.

The blaze is not being treated as suspicious, police said.
