A woman was raped by a man wielding a knife, while walking along a road in Lewisham in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The 29-year-old woman was walking along Ashwater Road in Lee at around 2.45am on March 8, when the suspect attacked her.

The man threatened her with a large kitchen knife before raping her, a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said.

After the attack, the man fled in the direction of Baring Road.

The woman was taken to a Haven, a specialist center for people who have been raped and victims of sexual assault.

The suspect is described as being a 5ft 10in black man, wearing a blue hooded top and had a blue bandana covering his face.

Detectives from the Sexual Offences Exploitation and Child Abuse Command units are investigating the attack.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police on 101.
