A man accused of stabbing a nurse to death at a South Croydon hospital appeared in court yesterday (May 16).
Patrick Clarke, 68, was attacked last Thursday at Southleigh Community Hospital, a treatment and rehabilitation centre for adults with mental health problems.
Clarke died at the scene after suffering several stab wounds. A postmortem examination confirmed his cause of death as a stab wound to the chest.
Jimmy Jedson, 40, was arrested at the scene. He appeared at Bromley Magistrates Court charged with murder and was remanded in custody to appear at a bail application hearing on May 18.
Last week a spokesman for Inmind, the private healthcare provider that owns the hospital, said: “We are greatly saddened to confirm that a member of staff lost his life following an incident in the hospital.
“Our deepest sympathies are with his family, friends and colleagues. He was a valued and respected member of staff who will be deeply missed.”
