Lewisham boxing club reaches national final

A Lewisham-based boxing club has reached the final of a national competition to find the UK’s best boxing club.

Double Jab Boxing Club in New Cross beat tough competition from over 100 other clubs from across the UK, and is now one step away from winning the title of Boxing Club of the Year.

Earlier this year boxing clubs were nominated by their members and respective boxing associations, leading Double Jab to claim one of only 15 finalist spots.

The competition is looking to find and reward clubs that “go the extra mile”.

Double Jab Boxing Club, which formed four years ago, boasts coaching that goes “beyond boxing” to teach lessons in “discipline, respect and commitment”.

They have made the shortlist and impressed judges with their dedication to turning around the lives of local young people in and around New Cross.

Jos Williams, marketing director at Bulk Powders, who sponsor the event, said: “Picking only 15 clubs to reach the final has been extremely tough. The standard of work and commitment we’ve seen across the British boxing scene has been first class.

“Double Jab work tirelessly for the young people in their area, volunteering their time to instil self-belief and discipline, chipping away at gang culture. If that isn’t worthy of a finalist spot, I don’t know what is.”

As well as the title of Boxing Club of the Year, the winning club will also receive a sports supplement bundle worth over £300 and exclusive members discount from the competition’s sponsor.

All 15 finalist clubs are seeking votes from the public to help them win the title.

Votes close tomorrow at 11.59pm.

The winner will be announced on July 4.
