Tower Hamlets looking for new young mayor

Young budding politicians have just two days to apply to become Tower Hamlets Young Mayor.

People aged 11-18 with an interest in politics can partake in Tower Hamlets eighth year of having a Young Mayor, to become a voice for youngsters.

The purpose of having a Young Mayor is to work with the elected Mayor, John Biggs, and councillors to discuss the concerns and issues affecting younger people.

The winner of the young mayor election will be given a range of opportunities to meet with key decision makers and politicians about what should be happening for young people, the council said.

The elected Young Mayor will attend and speak at public events throughout the year to help influence and encourage young people to become more politically engaged.

Anyone interested in applying to stand for Young Mayor of Tower Hamlets will need to complete the candidate nomination form by Saturday October 1.

If elected to stand for Young Mayor the training will commence at the end of October and the start of November 2016.
