Police are appealing for information after a police officer was run over by a car in Hackney on Sunday evening.

On October 2, at around 9.00pm, officers were pursuing the white Toyota Prius near Sandringham Road, Hackney, as the driver had failed to stop.

A police van continued to follow the driver, before the vehicle stopped on Pimbury Road, E5.

The officer left the van in order to approach the driver, but the car drove towards him and collided with him.

The vehicle failed to stop after injuring the policeman. The car was found later in the evening, but officers are still investigating into the driver’s identity.

The male officer, a Hackney resident in his 30’s, received injuries to his legs and torso. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he received treatment before being allowed to leave.

Witnesses who have information related to the accident that can assist the investigation are asked to contact Hackney police on 101.
