Man charged with assaulting police during cannabis factory raid

A Bow man has been charged with the assault of a Tower Hamlets police officer who was investigating  a cannabis factory.

Andy Phillip, 42, of Dorrington Point, appeared at Thames Magistrates Court on November 7.

He was charged with assault causing actual bodily harm and the production of controlled drugs including cannabis.

The attack took place in Bow on November 4. The police officer had been part of a search party for a suspected cannabis factory.

He sustained multiple injuries to the head, a swollen left cheekbone, and a swollen left hand. He was taken to a South London hospital.

Phillip was bailed to appear at Snaresbrook Crown Court on December 1.

The police officer has now been discharged from hospital.
