Once again Christmas markets are popping up all over the capital. There are many in the East London Lines area, so remember your gloves, get out, and discover them for yourself! It might be cold but mince pies and mulled wine should be reason enough for you to make the most of this Christmas season’s offerings.

Hackney

Sutton House Christmas Market

Built in 1535 this Tudor manor house run by the National Trust is hosting a Christmas Market this weekend and next. With a great variety of stalls that sell handmade products as well as high quality food and drinks, every room has a different pantomime theme, for the joy of the little ones – as well as the adults.

Fount Market

Just five minutes walk from Broadway Market shopping street at the Fount London Courtyard, this market runs this weekend and next. Come along to support amazing designers from East London. Amongst items for sale are ceramics, handmade baby clothes, and original prints.

Chats Palace Christmas Makers Market
The Annual Christmas Maker’s Market is returning to Chat’s Palace next Saturday, December 17.  There is a £1 fee on the door as a way of donation, to celebrate the resurgence of craft practises in Hackney.

Tower Hamlets

Urban Makers East Market

This market is on this weekend. Situated in Mile End Ecology Pavilion, and hosting more than 100 stallholders trading their original work, it may be a good idea to use this opportunity to look for presents. There will be jewelry, homeware, handmade ceramics and colourful textiles. You can also attend various workshops to craft your own items (pre-booking necessary), whilst kids can have their own fun in the craft room. There will be food stalls, hot drinks and Christmassy cocktails to tempt you all day.

St. Katharine Docks Christmas Market

From December 16 to 18, St Katharine Docks will be abuzz with festive Christmas events as well as a market. There will be international food stalls alongside arts and crafts, live music and for the little ones, Santa’s reindeer. If you don’t want to miss the reindeer make sure to visit on Friday from 1.30pm to 6.30pm.

This Saturday , December 10, the Lewisham Arthouse is hosting a Christmas fair for a chance to mingle with local artists and discover their work. The Arthouse is a creative workspace that supports artists and runs workshops and experimental visual art and music events. On Saturday many stalls will sell artisan items, crafts and designers’ unique products. With a resident DJ, festive food and drink it’s the ideal event to put you in the festive spirit.

Winter Fayre: Action for refugees in Lewisham

Support AFRIL’s mission to relieve poverty and isolation, enhance education and improve social integration among the refugees by coming to the first ever AFRIL Winter Fayre! this Saturday, December 10. There will be toys, children’s clothes, baked goods for sale along with face painting and games. Donations for the charity are encouraged, especially non-perishable food, toys and toiletries.

Crystal Palace Christmas Market

The Alma pub is hosting a Christmas Market this weekend. With arts and crafts, mulled wine, a barbecue as well as sixty stalls selling local products there is a lot to experience. Come and enjoy the wintry atmosphere supporting local crafters and makers.

Woodland Winter Festival

The Youth Forest Project is running an event for all the family this Sunday, December 11 with a Woodland Winter Festival.  The YFP has been running for 8 years and counts more than 30 members, who help run workshops and events on a voluntary basis. This event raises funds for them to continue their work. The festival takes place on , at Pinewood Scout Camp. Activities include cooking on the campfire, face painting, bush craft workshops, storytelling, archery, a musical workshop, a Santa trail and of course, refreshments.
