The sparkling lights are down. The baubles are packed away. It’s a perennial New Year dilemma. How do we get rid of the Christmas tree?

As part of a campaign to get households to recycle more and cut down on waste, London councils are stepping up their efforts to get people to recycle their trees.

Councils across the boroughs are encouraging residents to put old trees in their green waste bins or take them to recycling points. Lewisham Council has set up 13 temporary drop-off points to make it even easier to dispose of their trees. More information is available on their websites: Lewisham, Hackney, Croydon, and Tower Hamlets.

The service will run throughout January. Councils recommend that Christmas trees taken for recycling should not have any decorations or wrapping attached before disposal.
