Where to find the best pancakes in East London

Pancake Day is fast approaching so we’ve tracked down the Top 10 spots to grab yourself a pancake in East London. With venues ranging from American diners to French creperies, we’ve got your culinary options covered this Shrove Tuesday.

Hackney

If you’re local to the Hackney area you’re in luck. The borough is home to not one, but two branches of The Breakfast Club (TBC), London home of the American pancake. The menu boasts a year-round choice of breakfast pancakes with bacon and eggs, or a cream and berries combo for those of us with a sweet tooth.

For Pancake Day, TBC has raised the bar, offering an eight-days-only menu including salted caramel banoffee stacks, lemon meringue pie flavour and savoury options including their famed pulled-pork Cubanos served with cheese and coleslaw. TBC is also hosting a 12 pancakes in 12 minutes challenge on Tuesday.

Also in Hackney is the Shoreditch branch of The Diner, another tasty establishment based on foods from across the pond. You can find all of the classics there but, most excitingly, they offer a red velvet cake themed pancake.

For something a little more upmarket, Creperie Du Monde has everything the crepe connoisseur could wish for with a menu boasting both sweet and savoury options. For two completely different tastes, try the Mediterranean with salad and hummus inside and English Countryside with apple, cinnamon and fresh cream. Information on locations and opening times can be found on the map above.

Tower Hamlets

Both The Breakfast Club and The Diner can also be found in Tower Hamlets, alongside some less established but equally tasty places.

Crepeaffaire is another creperie with a separate menu for savoury and sweet crepes. The sweet crepes cover all the bases with chocolates, syrups, fruits and nuts, but the savoury are a little extra special. Menu items include pesto mozzarella, smoked salmon, Mexican chicken and even hoisin duck.

Bishopsgate Kitchen‘s buttermilk pancakes are reckoned to be among the best in East London. Diners can keep it simple or jazz them up with bacon, syrups, fruit, yoghurt, compotes and nuts for a P-Day extravaganza.

Another hotspot in the borough is Fatboy’s Diner, another all-American place in the heart of Poplar. The menu includes banana, chocolate chip, blueberries and bacon/syrup, all modestly priced. Information on locations and opening times can be found on the map above.
