A Deptford man was rushed to hospital on Thursday night after he was injured so badly in a fight on Deptford High Street he was left battling for his life.

Two men were involved in a loud argument outside of 15 Deptford High Street at around 10.30pm.

Masood Hussain of Your Choice Pound Shop Ltd told Eastlondonlines: “One man pushed the other and he hit his head on the lamppost outside the shop, he was lying on the floor after that with his girlfriend over him shouting ‘Don’t die on me’.”

Hussain speculated the two men were drunk. Soon after the man was injured ambulances and police arrived at the scene and by 11pm the man had been taken to hospital. The area outside of 15 Deptford High Street was cordoned off by police until 1pm yesterday. Police told shopkeepers in the area not to open their businesses so they could preserve the scene of the crime in case more forensic evidence was needed.

The Met police office gave no comment.
