The opening of Pizza Pilgrims on Shoreditch High Street this week means that local don’t have to go far for a famous chocolate calzone pizza.

Aside from enjoying the pizzeria’s classics, such as the spicy N’Duja or the Portobello mushroom and truffle, diners are encouraged to bring along their favourite chocolate bar to be transformed into the Italian treat.

The popular chain started in 2011 when brothers James, 27, and Thos Elliot, 30, made pizzas out of their customised van in Reggio Calabria, Italy. They then collected specialist ingredients such as Fior Di Latte mozzarella, which will also debut at the new Shoreditch location.

Steven, an employee at Pizza Pilgrims, told Eastlondonlines: “You can basically bring any chocolate bar you like and we will prepare it inside a normal calzone – just like we do to make our regular pizzas. I’ve eaten them with Mars, Kit Kat and Galaxy – the caramel and the chocolate melts together!”

The restaurant claims to offer one of the cheapest menus in Shoreditch with pizzas starting at just £5.50.

As well as bringing along your own chocolate to the new branch, customers can also BOYB (bring your own bottle). The Shoreditch branch of Pizza Pilgrims is the brothers’ sixth outlet in London.
