A Hackney man has been charged with the murder of a one-year-old boy and the attempted murder of a one-year-old girl today, Tuesday 21 March.

Bidyah Sagar Das, 33, of Wilberforce Road, is being held in custody at Thames’ Magistrates Court.

Police were called on Saturday night to a flat on Wilberforce Road near Clissold Park at 11.10pm and found both the children in a critical condition.

They were rushed to a nearby East London hospital. The boy later died in the early hours of Sunday morning.

A statement from the Metropolitan police states the girl is currently in a “critical condition” in hospital.

Formal identification of the young boy awaits, with a post-mortem examination due to take place at a central London hospital today.

Lead Detective Chief Inspector Dave Whellams and detectives from the Homicide and Major Crime Command continue to investigate.

In a previous police statement, Whellams said: “This is clearly a tragic incident, and our thoughts are with the family of the two young children.

“Despite the best efforts of medical professionals, a baby boy sadly died in the early hours of this morning.

“A baby girl currently remains in a critical condition and is receiving specialist medical care.”
