Murder investigation launched after man found dead in Shoreditch flat

A man has been found dead in a flat in Shoreditch, East London.

The victim, who was believed to be in his 20s, was found in a flat on the Cranston Estate in Hoxton on Sunday (March 19) afternoon.

Police were called to the scene by medics at 12.40pm to the block of flats near Pitfield Street, where the victim was declared dead by paramedics from the London Ambulance Service.

A 28-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder. He is being held in custody at a police station in East London.

The cause of death is yet unknown and an investigation has been launched. The man’s next of kin has been informed as detectives await formal identification and a post-mortem examination.

The incident is the third suspected murder to occur in London over the weekend and the second murder investigation to be launched in Hackney within the space of 24 hours.

An 18-year-old boy was shot in the head in Barking, East London and a man was charged with the murder of a one-year-old boy and the attempted murder of a one-year-old girl in Finsbury Park on Saturday night.

The teenager was found with a gunshot wound to his head at St Ann’s in Barking at 7.09pm on Sunday evening.He is yet to be formally identified but his next-of-kin has been informed, and a post-mortem examination will take place. A 20-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Bidhya Sagar Das, 33, will next appear at the Old Bailey on Thursday (March 23) charged with the murder of the boy and an attempt to murder the girl.

Formal identification and a post-mortem examination of the boy are due to take place as police continue to investigate.
