Young man murdered in latest Hackney knife attack

A murder investigation is underway after a young man was stabbed to death in south Hackney yesterday afternoon.

Police were called to the scene at the junction of Christie Road and Cassland Road in Hackney Wick at about 4:45 pm on Thursday. Paramedics attended the scene but the man, who was 24, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detective Chief Inspector Jamie Piscopo who is leading the investigation, said: “We understand the victim was involved in an altercation with a group before he was fatally attacked.

“A large crowd had gathered shortly after the attack and following the victim collapsing in Christie Road. I would urgently appeal for those present to contact my team with information.”

A spokesman from the Metropolitan Police said: “His next of kind have been informed. A post-mortem examination will be held in due course.” No arrests have been made so far.

This is the second fatal stabbing attack in the borough within a month, with a twenty-one-year-old Deliveroo driver stabbed to death at Monteagle Way on November 13.

Knife crime in Hackney have increased 10.8 per cent in the last year, with 562 happening in 2016/17, an increase from 507 in 2015/16.
