Domestic violence – what if it was you?

One in 50 local women will experience domestic violence in their lifetime.

Pre-existing conditions can impact the likelihood of women safely fleeing a domestic abuser, making the difference between life or death. Because of the strain on domestic violence services, some women’s chances are reduced more disproportionately than others. Around 95% of refuges have turned away thousands of women in the past six months, telling them they can’t be taken in because they have a physical impairment, a mental health issue, or having too many children. That’s before we consider a lack of beds.

Additionally, domestic violence services led “by and for” black and ethnic minority women have seen their funding slashed by half in the last 7 years.
