18 school children were killed in their classrooms when a Gotha aeroplane dropped a bomb on Upper North Street School in Poplar, East London. This was the first daylight bombing and one of the most tragic events of WW1. ELL tells the story of caretaker Benjamin Batt who lost his 5-year-old son Alfred during the bombing.
