Over 800 Croydon residents have registered for one of the 2000 homes being built by a housing developer, partly owned by the Croydon council.

The first homes built by Brick by Brick, which will open its town centre showroom next week, will be finished in late spring and the rest will become available between then and 2022.

For the next two months, all of the new homes in different schemes run by Brick by Brick will be exclusively available to Croydon residents. The houses will then be put up for sale on the market.

The two schemes that will be finished first are in Upper Norwood.  The Auckland Rise & Sylvan Hill development will provide 57 one and two bedroom flats, including 19 shared ownership homes and the Ravensdale & Rushden development includes 15 one and two bedroom flats and 15 two and three bedroom houses that will be available for private purchase.

Brick by Brick will be building a further 25 schemes that include the Flora Court in Thornton Heath bringing 24 shared ownership flats and three affordable rented flats.

All affordable rented homes will go to people on the council’s housing waiting list.

“The Council created Brick by Brick first and foremost to provide homes for Croydon people,” said Councillor Alison Butler, Croydon Council’s Deputy Leader, and Cabinet Member for Homes and Gateway services.

“Whether you want to rent or buy your home, or need help to get on the housing ladder with part-buy, Brick by Brick is delivering much-needed, good quality homes to meet growing demand across the borough.”

Colm Lacey, CEO of Brick by Brick, said: “We are absolutely delighted to offer our first homes to Croydon residents. These homes are the first of many, and represent a step change in design and build quality for new housing in the borough.”

Brick by Brick was set up in 2016 by the council to increase the supply of affordable homes in Croydon by 2022. Any profit made from the developments is funnelled back into the borough.

A showroom will be opening on George Street in Central Croydon, for people to view examples and reserve homes in the Brick by Brick housing developments.
