Police investigating the stabbing of a 15-year-old boy in Dalston on Monday have charged a teenager with his murder.

Romaine Williams-Reid, 18, of Erith Crescent in Romford, was due to appear in Barkingside Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (May 7) charged with Tashaun Arid’s murder, and grievous bodily harm with intent in relation to a second victim.

In a statement released by Scotland Yard on Friday, Arid’s family said: “Tashaun was passionate about his music and worked hard in his study. He was a family orientated boy very loving and caring.

“We are deeply shocked and saddened by our loss; we have lost a dear son, a brother, a nephew, a grandson and an uncle in Tashaun.”

Detectives from the Homicide and Major Crime Command of the Met Police are continuing to investigate the case.

Met Commissioner Cressida Dick described it as a “terrible, terrible thing” as the force revealed statistics showing a drop in homicides compared to the previous financial year.

The killing is the 55th homicide in the capital this year and the 28th fatal stabbing
