Free Tai Chi in London Fields

Description: Master Simon Wong has been practising Tai Chi for over 35 years and is now teaching free-of-charge Tai Chi classes that are run on a weekly basis every Saturday in Hackney. Tai Chi is known to be an extremely effective method to improve the overall health by developing muscle strength, circulation, inner balance, flexibility and concentration.

End Deportations: Casework Fundraiser

Description: End Deportations’ casework team organised a night of music to help raise money to support people that are threatened with deportation. The fundraising event features DJ Flight, Winsome, Crease, Klaus and Sean.

Public meeting: The NHS plan in Hackney

Date and time: May 8 6pm-8pm

Location: Council Chamber, Hackney Town Hall, Mare Street, E8 1EA

Description: The public meeting is aimed to provide Hackney residents their say on the NHS Long Term Plan and its plans for health services in Hackney. The event is organised by Healthwatch Hackney, who will then produce a report of the meeting that is going to be published locally. Speakers will include Cllr Feryal Demirci.

Art For Air

Description: Arts For Air is an exclusive art charity auction that is organised by Green Queensbridge. The event raises funds towards tackling the pollution by providing more green spaces and cleaner air to children of Queensbridge Primary School. Artists include Jeff Koons, Pure Evil, Rob Ryan, Patrick Caulfield, Joe Tilson, Stephen Chambers RA, Mimmo Paladino, Ben Johnson, Bill Jacklin RA, Bernar Venet, Mark Tobey, William Crozier and many more.

Help Elect Green MEPs in Tower Hamlets!

Description: The Green Party calls for people to come and support their MEP candidates by giving out leaflets to bring the party’s message to the voters of Tower Hamlets. They’re a pro-European party that is campaigning to secure the freedom of movement across borders and guarantee the wellbeing of our climate.

Free Art Workshop for adults

Date and time: May 5 11am-1pm

Location: The Hub Building, Victoria Park, Grove Road, E3 5TB

Description: Fritha Jenkins and Marta Bakst are artists that offer free-of-charge art photography workshops where the residents will get an opportunity to learn new ways of using a smartphone camera to capture Victoria Park in an artistic way. Participants are only required to bring a fully charged smartphone, a charger, and make sure that their shoes are appropriate for long walks around the park.

May Day Festival

Description: Tower Hamlets Council organised the May Day Festival to bring the local community together and celebrate the arrival of spring. With the Council marking the 40 year anniversary of urban agriculture and heritage crafts in Stepney, this year’s celebration will offer a wide range of activities, including maypole dancing, a showcase of arts and crafts and many more.

Delicacy

Description: Delicacy is a dark comedy about a family with a tragic history, directed by Sammy Glover and written by Mark Jones. Delicacy is a part of the Foreword Festival that celebrates young and rising talent on stage.

Music Support Charity Event

Location: Aaja Deptford, Arch 2, 4 Deptford Market Yard, SE8 4BX

Description: The event is hosted by Voice MC and will feature a line-up of artists such as Kalm, Missledz, Andromeda, DJ Uno and Mauoq. Music Support Charity’s main mission is to help raise more funds for people in the music industry that suffer from mental health issues and various types of addictions.

Exploring Unconscious Bias - Is being 'Colour Blind' a good or bad thing?

Description: Lewisham Local organised a free 1.5-hour-long session for an open dialogue regarding unconscious bias and how they affect society’s views on issues such as race, gender, sexuality and disabilities. The event will also touch on the subject of generalisations and how they change our perspective of people that are different.

Arts Freelancer Breakfast Club LATE

Location: Deptford Does Art, 28 Deptford High Street, SE8 4AF

Description: Lewisham Education Arts Network and local arts freelancers organised a special evening breakfast club at a local art gallery in Deptford. The event offers an opportunity to network with local arts freelancers while sharing experiences over a late breakfast snack and a cup of tea/coffee.

Cost: £3.50 (Price includes snacks and a soft drink but could be upgraded on the day of the event to enjoy the venue’s alcohol menu)

 

The Joneses, a tribute to The Smiths

Business Start-Up - 'An Accounting Introduction'

Description: For those who are thinking of starting a business, but aren’t sure of what to do are invited to attend the Business Start-Up event held by TE BAN & Co. The session will feature a presentation that will provide information on the responsibilities of setting up a business and handling finances.

Dementia friendly screening of Calamity Jane

Description: Croydon Dementia Action Alliance collaborated with the David Lean Cinema to organise screenings of well-known music films to support people with dementia by turning the cinema into a fun and inclusive experience. On May 4, they will hold a screening of Calamity Jane, a 1953 American romantic comedy starring Doris Ray. The cinema will offer refreshments to the audience starting from 10.15am.

Hear Us Mental Health Open Forum

Description: Hear Us is a Mental Health Service User Group that involves people in key decisions regarding the delivery of mental health services in Croydon. Description: Undiscovered Talent UK organised a talent show to bring the Croydon community together by putting on an entertaining show. The event features a wide range of performances including but not limited to singers, dancers, comedians, magicians, etc. Anyone who wants to become a participant must sign up before 7.00pm and purchase a ticket on the day of the show.
