The two separate incidents took place on George Street and Surrey Street in the centre of Croydon in the early hours of June 10.

A man and a teenage girl  were arrested following the attack. The male, 22, and female, 17, were together when they were arrested on George Street two days later.

The man appeared in court last Thursday, charged with attempted grievous bodily harm with intent and arson with intent. The teenage girl has been released on bail pending further investigation.

The police said: “Two men were treated by the London Ambulance Service for minor burns. Sleeping bags or other property was set alight.”

The men did not suffer any life-threatening injuries with their wounds being described as minor.
