The creators of Street Feast, known for their popular night markets such as Dalston Yard, are opening up a new summer night market in Lewisham called Model Market.

They are currently transforming an abandoned 1950’s market just off Lewisham Highway into what Dom Cools-Lartigue, founder of Street Feast, describes as “something akin to a smaller version of Brixton village”.

Every Friday and Saturday night from June 20, Model Market will be offering international street food from 10 venues including Mama’s Jerk Station, Breddos Tacos and Yum Bun.

Unlike Brixton Village, there will also be a big central area with five different bars: the Rotary Cocktail Bar, Shandy Salon, Rum Shack, Wine Bar, Slushy Bar, and a rooftop terrace.

Mr. Cools-Lartigue said: “South East London – like a lot of areas – deserves something a bit more interesting in terms of the food mix.

“Street food is quite a uniquely cross-generational event. At the end of the day, it’s food and drink. We all like to eat, we all like to have a drink, and whoever appreciates and enjoys good food and drink should enjoy Model Market.”

Street Feast says on its website that: “We’ll be breathing new life, light and vibes into the space with everything you’d expect – fantastic street food, cracking drinks, great music and our usual wonderful crowd.

“We’ve not done anything like ModelMarket before – where the best bits of DalstonYard meet the vibe of HawkerHouse – and we’re really looking forward to bringing our thing to Lewisham.”

Ninety per cent of the old market buildings, such as old hair salons, record shops and shipping agencies will be preserved and used for the new units.

Adrian Luckie, who grew up in Lewisham and will now be opening up Mamas Jerk station at Model Market, said: “When Dom showed me my unit, it was the actual place where I used to eat jerk chicken when I was a little kid.”

Model Market will be open Fridays and Saturdays for 15 weekends from June 20, from 6pm until late.
