EastLondonLines is changing again. This time we have gone out and found a bunch of keen young school students from along the ELL who are eager to become reporters and we are training them on the site. They are being helped along by five of our finest graduate students and our news tutor. In July we will all pack our laptops and move from Goldsmiths, where EastLondonLines lives for the rest of the year, to Headliners which is based at Rich Mix in Shoreditch. Headliners has a news room specially for young people and we will be working with them to produce EastLondonLines throughout the Summer holidays. Our Young Reporters will keeping an eye on your community, so keep coming back to see how they get on, and tell them about stuff they should be reporting.
EastLondonLines is an independent news website run by the journalism department of Goldsmiths, University of London. We have been up since November 2009 covering the things we think are important along the new Overground line between Dalston and Croydon. Now that the line is up and running we hope that more people will start to see a real community developing along the east side of London and that you will see our site as the obvious place to link up, find out what is happening, and use our listings to find out how best to enjoy your new connections.
EastLondonLines is produced entirely by students with the assistance of journalists who are tutors and lecturers at Goldsmiths. Unlike most other publications it will inevitably undergo the occasional personality transplant as responsibility moves between groups. As each new group takes over we may sometimes drop the ball. There may be the odd break in service (though so far never more than a day or two). But we intend to keep going and keep bringing you honest news, produced to the highest ethical standards, by young people who will go on to be part of the future of journalism. We want you to be part of the process, so please use the comment boxes at the end of every news story. If we have got it wrong then tell us. We have no axe to grind. If you know something we don’t, then tell us that too. If we can verify it then we will use it.
