A new service has launched in Croydon to give lonely pensioners someone to talk to. Age UK’s service, ‘Call in Time’, gives pensioners the opportunity to receive a weekly phone call from a trained volunteer to chat about anything and everything from grandchildren to gardening.

Lewisham and Croydon Council have both approved budget cuts of tens of millions of pounds as part of their plans to implement government efficiency savings. The majority Labour council at Lewisham yesterday agreed to cut £33m over one year, saving a total of £88m over the next three years.
