Elevating Success, which offers educational training programmes to local individuals, finished their first enterprise programme in December. Eight out of the ten trainees who made it to the final stage were women. These successful candidates are now embarking upon their first entrepreneurial venture, marking the increasing influence of women in business today. One of them is Maired Gorman.

In 2012, Steve Bullock, one of the country’s first elected mayors, will enter his tenth year as the Mayor for Lewisham.

Over the last year, the borough has been affected by the riots in August, suffered dramatic surges in knife crime and gang violence and now many of its residents will face the risk of eviction from their homes in the New Year.

Lewisham athlete seeks eBay sponsorship for Olympics

A Lewisham sprinter is advertising on eBay hoping to secure a £30,000 sponsorship deal to confirm his place in Team GB for the Olympics.

James Ellington, 26, has been unable to compete for four years due to an injury, but is now back on top form, running 200m in the fastest time by a British athlete this year at a non-altitude venue. (more…)

Prince Abdi brings laughter to Shoreditch this Christmas

Shoreditch comedian Prince Abdi laughs as he remembers the almost non-existent reaction to his jokes five years ago. “I told the first joke; nothing, so I told the second joke and nothing again. Then I just lost it.” His grin makes it clear that he has moved on from that night. Thankfully, members of the audience no longer pull out a pack of playing cards and start a game in the middle of his act. (more…)
