The Hackney Wicked Art festival returns to E9 this weekend, the Field Day Festival hits Victoria Park on Saturday with five stages and there are dog sculptures in Clissold Park. This Thursday Keep Me Posted will open a new gallery at 67 Wilton Way Hackney with work by Angus Fairhurst + Tracey Emin + Rachel Whiteread + Julie Cockburn among others (11am-5pm). Bored in Lewisham?  Artefacts Edutainment runs creative workshops through the summer holidays – for free,  or get out and kick a ball about at Millwall.

Soca for the over 50s, photos for the uber-chic

The launch party for the biggest photography exhibition in the UK, FOTO8 will take over Honduras Street, EC1Y, on Friday night with DJs  and food to help you enjoy (and maybe purchase) photo stories from around the world.

150 individual works by 130 talented individual photographers will be on display at the HOST gallery, and you will have the opportunity to witness the announcement of this year’s Best in Show award. Tickets are only available in advance, cost £10 and are available direct from the Foto8 office at 020 7253 8801.

Elsewhere, music, arts and crafts and entertainment are all on offer at Hackney Homes Fun Day on 24th July in Haggerston Park off Goldsmith’s Row, E2 8QH. All ages are welcome and ‘fantastic activities’ will be provided for children. The event starts at 11:00 am and ends at 6pm, though it would not be foolish to expect an after party or two!

Also this Saturday, families can enjoy a day out at Lewisham’s Family Fun Day, which aims to encourage people of all ages to explore their local area and get out in the open. The day will provide ample entertainment for the kids, including a treasure hunt and a puppet show featuring the irrepressible Captain Grimey.

If you’re over 50 and have still got the energy to shake a leg, the Reggae and Soca Night at Stoke Newington Town Hall is for you. The night out is part of Hackney’s Festival for Older People and  will be absolutely free with light refreshments provided. To book attendance call CRT on 02072757092.

For the younger, more active of us, ‘Run The Court Not The Streets Basketball’ is a sports event taking place in Archbishop Lanfranc School, Croydon this Thursday. Its aim is to get young people off the street and will cost  you £2.00.

The Sirens of Titans, a space-comedy play written by the legendary Kurt-Vonnegut, is being performed in Sydenham Wells Park across 24th – 27th July. Local People can embark on “a time travelling twilight journey from Earth to Titan” provided by the London Bubble Theatre. Tickets are £16 for Adults and £9 for children.

Another drama performance taking place in Lewisham borough this week is The Beautiful Octopus Club in Albany, Deptford, which features live music and videos from artists with learning disabilities. Tickets cost £7 and can be ordered from the Albany box office on 020 8692 4446.

Young people looking to become the next Tarantino or Spielberg may be interested an introductory film-making course which is running at Headliners in Shoreditch next week from the 26th-30th. The course will provide opportunities to work with professional film-makers from Chocolate Films, and is completely free. To sign up visit: www.futureversity.org .

For bored teenagers searching for something to look forward to in the future, The Underage Festival will take place in Victoria Park on the 1st of August. The festival has a star-studded line-up, with headliners including M.I.A, Tinchy Stryder and Ellie Goulding.
