The East London Line extension has “grown faster than anticipated” with nearly three and a half times more journeys made per week in 2011 than in 2007, according to a TfL report on the train operator.

Nearly two million journeys were made on the line per week in September last year compared with 0.6 million in 2007.

But the increase has led to higher levels of crowding, and the local government body predicts there will be 100 million journeys made on the whole Overground network in 2011/12 as user demand proliferates this year due to predicted popular events including the Olympic Games and the Queen’s Jubilee. Eco-friendly buses: Route 38 from Victoria to Hackney will launch on February 20 pic: TfL

Boris Johnson has unveiled an eco-friendly double-decker bus that will go into service in Hackney next month.

This “cutting-edge” bus will be the “most environmentally friendly bus of its kind”, according to Transport for London. It is the first bus designed specifically for London’s streets in over 50 years. (more…)

Christmas Day

All tube services will be closed and there will be no daytime or Night buses operated by London Buses.

The Oxford Tube will operate a special service between Oxford and London Victoria until 1900, calling at Heathrow Airport Central bus station in both directions instead of Hillingdon station.

A new scheme to help HGV drivers understand cycle road safety is launched in Hackney pic: Hackney council

Lorry drivers in Hackney are being offered free training to help reduce accidents involving cyclists.

Hackney is the first local authority to provide the accredited and free “Safe Urban Driving Course” for all HGV drivers employed by the council. The course includes a practical module in which drivers are invited to ride bicycles. (more…)
