Following refurbishments to the tune of £1billion, the East London line is expected to relaunch on 15 April, EastLondonLines can reveal.
A limited passenger service, which TfL refers to as a “live testing operation”, will see a 7am-8pm timetable operating between New Cross Gate and Dalston Junction. It is understood that a full evening and weekend service will begin on the official 23 May opening date.
There has been no confirmation on the exact pattern of services, but if they conform to initial plans, there will be twelve trains in operation per hour.
Elsewhere, the second phase of the East London line extension, running through Peckham to Clapham Junction, has recently been posted for tender.
Is there any chance of keeping the replacement buses as a complementary service alongside the new extension? The ELW buses have proved invaluable – for older people with trolleys and shopping, for the schoolkids, for people with babies. The drivers also want to keep the route. Many people prefer to go just one stop to Shadwell/Whitechapel/Wapping on the bus rather than use the Underground. I’m sure access is now safe, easy and to the platforms for the Tube BUT Wapping only has the hoppa buses D3 and the 100; any chance?
