Quality coffee comes to Lewisham

Underneath Lewisham’s clock tower lies South East London’s answer to good coffee.

The Coffee Exchange stall at Lewisham market, open every Saturday and located next to the award-winning Sausage Man stall, is where Neil Le Bihan and Lindsay Harley serve freshly ground coffee with a difference.

“Our mission is to bring quality and affordable coffee to south-east London,” says Neil, who has been running the stall since last August. A previous employee of Borough Market favourite, Monmouth Coffee Company, Neil decided it was time Lewisham got a chance to experience quality coffee. The Exchange uses Monmouth coffee for all of the espresso based drinks on offer.

Neil and Lindsay describe themselves as passionate about coffee. They both entered the UK Barista championship, finishing in the top twenty, and Neil is the current UK Latte Art champion.

The Exchange is not only interested in making tasty takeaway drinks: it also aims to be a business as eco-friendly as possible. The stall encourages customers to buy and re-use “keep-cups”, sustainable coffee cups designed to reduce the waste caused by disposable cups. It will also start to sell its own recycled jute bags this month for the shoppers of Lewisham.

As they say: “We are bringing exceptional coffee to Lewisham, and trying to provide a nice place to spend some of your Saturday when you are out shopping.”
