Bethnal Green & Bow was considered a safe Labour seat for decades before George Galloway’s Respect party snatched the seat on a wave of anti-war sentiment in 2005.

This year, Galloway is running for the seat of neighbouring Poplar & Limehouse, a move which Labour hope will give them the upper hand in their attempt to recapture the seat.

Poplar & Limehouse will replace the old seat of Poplar & Canning Town shown above. The new seat will absorb certain areas of Tower Hamlets, while losing Canning Town, Custom House and Royal Docks. George Galloway is due to run in this seat this year, which will most likely take votes away from Labour. The Conservatives will hope they can benefit from this and build on their fifth vote share in 2005.
