A man has been charged with murder following  a fatal stabbing in Sydenham early on Sunday. Police and the ambulance service were called to Lucas Court in Winchfield Road shortly after 3am on Sunday 5 September where they found a 46-year-old man suffering from stab wounds. He was treated by paramedics but was pronounced dead at the scene.

Tobi Henry, aged 28, of no fixed abode, has been charged with murder and will appear via virtual court at Camberwell Magistrates Court on Tuesday morning.

An incident room has opened at Lewisham police station under DCI Cliff Lyons of the Homicide and Serious Crime Command, where detectives say that at this early stage they are keeping an open mind as to the circumstances of the incident and any motive.

They have also appealed for witnesses. DCI Lyons said: “We are asking anyone who was in the Bell Green area of Sydenham and saw or heard anything in the vicinity of Lucas Court from around 3.00 hours to come forward.”
