A teacher was due to appear at the Old Bailey today charged with the
murder of his parents.

Daniel Dighton, 35, is accused of stabbing to death his  father Barry, 61, and his mother Elizabeth, 60, at the house they all shared in Campden Road, South Croydon.

Dighton had recently returned from a job teaching English in Thailand, after spending 10 years as a teaching assistant at the nearby Elmhurst School for Boys.

Mr Dighton Senior was a former headteacher of Elmhurst School for almost 20 years until his retirement in 2006, whilst Mrs Dighton was a retired nursery teacher at the same school.

Dighton has been remanded in custody since October 2009. He was arrested after police found him hiding in his parent’s attic, following reports of a ‘disturbance’.
