A Hackney family will take the starring roles in the new series of the BAFTA-nominated observational documentary series, The Family.

The Channel Four show will follow the Adesina family round-the-clock over a period of eight weeks as they experience the ups and downs of family life from their home in the heart of Hackney.

Sunday and his wife Vicky met in their native Nigeria, moved to the UK in the late 1970s and have been married for 30 years. They live with their four British-born children, aged between 15 and 27 and together the family run a takeaway and restaurant business.

The first episode sees the Adesinas preparing for Sunday’s 60th birthday celebrations, leading to clashes between the traditional parents and their more modern, streetwise children.

The Adesinas will be the first black family to have appeared on the show.

The Family was first shown in 2008 focussing on the Hughes family from Canterbury, Kent, with a second series in 2009 following the Grewal family from London.
