EastLondonLines kept going through the rush hour today in spite of the coldest overnight temperatures for 20 years. According to a TFL spokesperson: “The majority of Transport for London’s Tube, bus, DLR, London Overground, Tramlink and strategic Red Routes road network is operating well this morning and is keeping London moving.

“We have detailed contingency plans which were put into action, including working closely with the London boroughs to ensure key routes were gritted.  Transport for London’s fleet of 38 gritters and 10 quad bikes have been at work throughout the night, spreading 500 tonnes of grit on the strategic road network. We have run deicing trains throughout the night on the Tube network and have had teams out tackling the icy conditions.”
