Police have released CCTV images of the moments before a student was brutally stabbed to death in Sydenham last Saturday.

Samuel Guidera, 24, was found collapsed in the street 200 meters from Penge East station at 9.55pm on Saturday 12 February.

Passers-by at first believed Guidera to have been the victim of a road accident, before discovering he had been stabbed. He was taken to a South London hospital where he died from a single stab wound.

The CCTV images released show Guidera as he went into the local convenience store before walking towards the bus stop on Newlands Park where he was attacked.

Guidera was a student of history and politics at the University of Greenwich and was hoping to become a teacher.

In a statement the family said: “Samuel was a hard working man, who was passionate about his studies. We are devastated and cannot understand why this has happened. We would appeal to anyone who has any information about our son to contact the police.”

Dectective Chief Inspector Laurence Smith, from the Homicide and Serious Crime Command said: “We would urgently like to speak to anyone who may have seen Samuel on this Saturday evening as they may have important information that may assist the investigation.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact detectives on 020 8345 3734 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. There have as yet been no arrests.
