No plans for Valentine’s Day? Why not treat your sweetheart to a night on the town in Lewisham College. Yes, that’s right Lewisham College.
Join Lewisham Mayor, Sir Steve Bullock, on February 14 for a night of fine dining at the Phoenix Restaurant at Lewisham College all while raising money for charity.
For £25 couples will enjoy a lavish three course meal prepared by the students taught by among others celebrity guest chefs Jamie Oliver and Gordon Ramsey against the backdrop of a string quartet, Orfeas setting the mood, and of course, door prizes.
Featured on the menu will be smoked trout with pea shoots, horseradish potato salad and sweet beetroots for starters, a main course of roast chicken breast with wild mushroom sauce, minted potatoes and assorted winter vegetables, followed by a decadent dessert of strawberry cheesecake with berry coulis.
And, for those of you that don’t eat meat, the vegetarian option includes a spinach lemon mascarpone roulade with rocket salad and chive oil dressing to start, followed by a triple cheese filo tart with red pepper sauce. Très chic!
Simone Davies, Director of Marketing and Communications at Lewisham College said: “We’re really delighted to be hosting this event and to be supporting such a worthwhile cause. Our student run Phoenix restaurant provides the perfect location for functions just like this; everyone who comes along to the Alternative Valentine’s event will undoubtedly be served in style.”
The Lavender Trust which raises money specifically to fund information and support services for younger women with breast cancer, was co-founded in 1998 by former Lewisham councillor Beth Wagstaff and is the chosen charity of the Mayor. So far, the trust has raised almost £1300 in ticket sales and donations, with 50 tickets being sold already.
The next upcoming fundraising event for the Lavender Trust will be the Spring Charity Quiz on Friday, May 13 at the Rivoli Ball Room. For 10 pounds each, players can compete in teams of up to six people and enjoy a hearty buffet to keep their energy up.
