Driver charged following collision in Lee

The 25 year-old  driver of a BMW car which collided with a classic mini in Lee has been formally charged.The incident took place in the early hours of last Sunday morning on Lee High Road, SE13.  The silver BMW was being followed after it failed to stop for police officers in Blackheath and subsequently collided with a green classic Mini being driven by an off-duty police officer at around 3.30 a.m.

The officer was on his way home from a night shift and needed to be cut out of his car. He remains in a serious but stable condition in a south London hospital. His injuries are not life threatening.

A spokesperson for Lewisham police has confirmed that the driver of the silver BMW, Ygert Shaqiri from Beanshaw SE9, has been charged with dangerous driving, having no insurance and causing criminal damage in relation to the collision on Lee High Road.

He has been remanded in custody as traffic police continue investigating the circumstances of the collision.

He is expected to appear before Woolwich Magistrates by video link on May 24th.
