Youth accused in athlete’s murder

A 16 year-old male youth, of no fixed address, is the fourth person charged with the murder of Sylvester Akapalara. He was arrested on Tuesday 3rd of May. The alleged victim, a 17 year old Sierra Leonian national, was shot in a stairwell on the Pelican estate in Peckham on 19th of December 2010.

He was described as a “model athlete” by the secretary of the sports club where he trained. The club secretary said he “showed no signs of being in any trouble”. The teenager arrested will appear at Camberwell Green Youth Court on Thursday also charged with two counts of attempted murder and wounding with intent in relation to a second and third victim and further charges of possession of a firearm and offensive weapon.

18 year-old David Nyamupfukudza from New Cross appeared at Camberwell Green Magistrates’ Court on the 8th of January accused of murder. He was remanded in custody and is due to appear at the Old Bailey on the 6th of June.
