A man has pleaded guilty to killing his 82-year-old father and a 29-year-old man in an arson attack that destroyed a Shadwell house.

Aaron Bhasin, 53, was given an Indeterminate Sentence for Public Protection at the Old Bailey today after he was found guilty of two counts of manslaughter. Both men died as a result of smoke inhalation.

The attack took place in the early hours of the morning on March 7 at a maisonette on Chapman Street, where Bhasin lived with his father Ram Bhasin and an Indian national, Sunil Koosuru, believed to have been a lodger at the address.

Bhasin was arrested on the day of the incident and charged with two counts of murder before subsequently pleading guilty to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished capacity.
