Collision hospitalises woman and child

A woman is in hospital after being struck by a car on Wednesday morning in Brighton Road, Purley.  She was accompanied by  a two-year-old boy who was also taken to hospital with minor injuries to his hand.

The woman, believed to be in her 60s sustained severe hip and head injuries and was taken to St. George’s Hospital, Tooting. She is no longer in a life-threatening condition.

The 41-year-old driver of the vehicle involved in the collision has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and remains in custody at a south London police station.

The accident occurred on the same road on which Vicki Lamont was killed in a collision last year, as she returned from a celebration for her 31st birthday, the day before her daughters seventh birthday.
