Hackney residents will now be able to search for, track and comment on planning applications in their area online.

Hackney Council has launched the ‘Find My Nearest’ interactive mapping service to allow people to have their say on developments within their postcode. Those who are thinking of developing their home can also access new ‘Householder Planning Applications’ pages, which provide advice on planning and explain the building process. Some residents may find that their development does not need to go through the planning process at all.

The planning application pages will also contain information about building homes in Hackney’s 29 recognised conservation areas, and plans for the future of the area.

Councillor Guy Nicholson, Hackney Cabinet Member for Regeneration and the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, said: “Planning plays an important role in shaping the development of our neighbourhoods and as such it is important that that a Planning service aspires to being accessible to the residents it serves.

“This expanded online service opens up new channels through which we, as residents, can find out as well as comment on, the planning applications that have been made in our local neighbourhood or to report a development that may not have had planning permission.”
