A new Tesco Metro store opening in Whitechapel will donate £1,000 to a local homeless charity, Whitchapel Mission.

The store in Fieldgate Street is set to open at 8am on Monday June18. The store manager Rachel Thomas will present the cheque to Whitechapel Mission at 10am before the ribbon is cut.

The money will go towards the immediate needs for shelter, food, clothing, and medical for the homeless people in the local area.

The charity’s projects also include programmes to help recovery from addiction and vital skills training for jobs.

Thomas received the keys to the premises from the project manger Aidan Teesdale last week. She is excited about making a positive contribution to the area, she said:

“It’s important that we become a part of the Whitechapel community.”

There are 10 Tesco Metros under a one mile radius from this new store.
