A man is in a critical but stable condition in a South London hospital after being stabbed inside a New Cross Road takeaway on Friday. The 21 year old is currently in intensive care.

The Metropolitan Police have not revealed the identity of the victim and told EastLondonLInes that it was “for his safety”.

Police were alerted to the incident by the ambulance service at 9.40pm on October 12.

It appears there was an altercation inside a takeaway, which resulted in the victim receiving a number of injuries.

A witness told East London Lines that the victim was attacked when ordering food in the takeaway shop and then jumped over the counter to escape.

A friend of the victim, who did not want to be named, told EastLondonLines: “I was with him for three days before the incident, I didn’t see him Friday but then one of my friends called me and told me what had happened. I was told he had passed away, then I got another call told me that they had revived him after nine minutes. They got him in his heart, neck, leg and face.

“His uncle told me that they have been told by doctors that if he recovers he will suffer from some sort of heart condition.”

Lillie Allen, a Goldsmiths’ student, told EastLondonLines: “I came back to New Cross Gate station at about 10pm. When I walked down the road I noticed loads of police cars and ambulances lining the pavement opposite my house. A policeman said there had been a very serious incident and that all people had to be accounted for moving in and out of the area.

“Later I found out it was a stabbing. The road was kept closed for the entire night and areas of the opposite pavement were still taped off the next day. It scared me as I regularly walk back from dance class by myself late at night.”

Two men and two youths have been arrested. Three have been bailed pending further enquiries with no further action being taken against the fourth.

The Metropolitan Police have released an e-fit of the suspect of a previous stabbing of a 19-year old man outside The Venue nightclub on Sunday September 16. The violent assault took place at the number 53 bus stop at New Cross Road at 03.30am.
