Hackney artist Labrinth gets his first number 1 UK single

Labrinth has received his first number one UK single in the Official Singles Charts with :”Beneath Your Beautiful”

The song is his latest single from his first album Electronic Earth.

The Hackney born singer, producer, musician and songwriter AKA Tim McKenzie tweeted: “We did it BABY” when the sixth single from his album was announced number one.

“We did it!! No more wondering its official! Número UNO!!’

‘Beneath Your Beautiful’ was released on October 21 and sold over 100.000 copies in one week. The song features vocals by Scottish singer Emeli Sandé as well as being co-written by her.

Labrinth first came on the music scene in 2009 when he produced “Dead End’ a track for British artist ‘Master Shortie’. He shot to fame in 2010 when he produced, co-wrote and rapped as a guest artist on TinieTempah’s number one single ‘Pass Out’.

His own work has earned him three other top five singles from his debut album.

Although many of Labrinth’s Twitter followers were quick to congratulate him, many commented on his spelling of ‘your’ claiming his song title should be ‘Underneath You’re Beautiful’.

He wrote back: “Can I make something clear! this is twitter! Not an English GCSE haha I’ll spell as BADLY as I wish awritemayte!’

He continued: ”Oh is this about #Beneath”YOUR”Beautiful I love how crazy this has sent people…. It was to annoy english teachers and grammar Nazis.”
