An environmental app developed in Lewisham has grabbed the attention of the Mayor of Kingston, Jamaica.

The app, Love Clean Streets, lets users take pictures of environmental problems, like abandoned cars, and report them to their local authority. It was so successful that it’s now in use across the UK.

This week Mayor Angela Brown-Burke met with Lewisham Council to discuss launching a version in Jamaica.

She said: “We have had some useful and interesting discussions, sharing experiences and opportunities for future co-operation. We are keen to deepen our relationship for the mutual benefit of our citizens.”

The city of Kingston and Lewisham Council have formed a partnership as part of an initiative organised by the Commonwealth Local Government Forum.

Lewisham’s mayor Sir Steve Bullock said: “We are delighted to welcome our Kingston colleagues and share our experience of tackling environmental issues. Our Love Clean Streets application has changed the way communities across the UK, and now internationally, are tackling graffiti and fly-tipping, and creating quality living environments for their residents.”
