Police release CCTV footage of vicious attack in Hackney

Police have released CCTV footage of a man being viciously assaulted as he waited for a bus in Kingsland Road, Hackney on July, 31.

The film shows two suspects approaching the 28-year-old victim before one suddenly swings a punch at his face.

The unprovoked attack happened a few minutes after midnight as the victim listened to music on his headphones while he waited at a bus stop outside 78 Kingsland Road.

Footage shows two males, both black and wearing hooded tops (one with the hood up, and one with his down) meeting moments before near the scene. They walk away from the area of the bus stop before turning back and approaching their victim. The man with his hood down then swings back his arm and punches the victim full in the face, causing him to collapse.

At the same time the other suspect tries unsuccessfully to grab a mobile phone from a woman, aged 24, also waiting at the bus stop.

The victim was taken to the Royal London Hospital and discharged after treatment for his injuries, which included a fractured cheekbone.

Investigating officer DC Dave Crewe, from Hackney Robbery Squad, said: “This was a vicious, unprovoked assault on a man simply standing at a bus stop minding his own business.”

Detectives are appealing for anyone with information or witnesses to come forward or contact police on 020 7275 3210 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
