Woman bailed after murder of Croydon pensioner

A 78-year-old woman who was arrested in connection with the suspected  murder of a man from Croydon on Friday has been released on bail until the 10 October. Police are appealing for further information.

Police were called at 2.30am on Friday to Seven Sisters Country Park in Sussex, where his body was found on a path. The woman, who is known to the victim is also from Croydon.

The man who died is also in his 70s and has not yet been formally identified. The details of his injuries have not been released.

Acting Detective Chief Inspector Jon Fanner said: “We are continuing to investigate this tragic incident and are appealing to anyone who was in the country park on Thursday afternoon or evening and may have seen an elderly couple behaving unusually or what would appear to be out of character.

“We also believe they were staying in Brighton so would like to hear from anyone who was on a bus travelling from the city to the Seven Sisters area and who saw an elderly couple get off at this location.”

Part of the park, which is situated in the South Downs National Park, was closed on Friday and Saturday along with its car park,  but the car parks have now been re-opened.
