Close friend Elizabeth Daish said: “This is totally out of character, Gianni is always in contact with friends and family.

“He is an avid Arsenal fan but did not turn up to the game on Saturday.”

Gianni’s family have released this statement: “To everybody who knows Gianni, he is a responsible, sensible and forward thinking individual.

“It must be reiterated that this behaviour is out of character, unusual and he has always had a strong home beacon.”
