A 21-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a man who was found beaten up in a skip in South Norwood on Saturday morning.

Michael Hunt, 37, from Selhurst, was found at around 7am on March 15 at the far end of an alleyway, just off Station Road.

Hunt was taken by ambulance to King’s College Hospital with injuries to his head and body, which officers believe were consistent with an assault.  He died shortly before 12pm.

A 21-year-old man is in custody having been arrested on Tuesday morning at an address in Purley on suspicion of Hunt’s murder.

Detective Chief Inspector Diane Tudway said:”The information available to us at this stage leads us to believe that Mr Hunt was not the victim of a stranger or random attack. However, our enquiries continue.

“Michael Hunt was well known in the local community and I would urge anyone with information, or who may have seen Mr Hunt in the time prior to him being found, to come forward and speak to police.”

An inquest into Hunt’s death is due to open and adjourn at Croydon Coroner’s Court on Tuesday afternoon.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the incident room on 020 8721 4005. To remain anonymous, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
