The organisers of Dalston’s Street Feast are expanding their culinary ventures south of the river to Lewisham from today.
Model Market, a new food fair, will occupy an abandoned indoor and outdoor market lane off Lewisham High Street . The organisers of Street Feast have experience in transforming disused areas in east London into culinary spaces and are hoping that Model Market will prove to be as popular as its predecessors in Dalston Yard and Hawker House. The group said: “We’ll be breathing new life, light and vibes into the space with everything you’d expect – fantastic street food, cracking drinks, great music and our usual wonderful crowd.”
The choice of Lewisham as the location for the food market is further evidence of why the Financial Times recently described the borough as “up-and-coming” and the “natural heir to Hackney”. The organisers are hoping to add to the gentrification of the area and said they want to “have a positive impact on the area by breathing life back into some long forgotten market lanes”.
Many of the vendors from the Street Feasts at Dalston Lane and Hawker House will be featured in Lewisham including, Breddos Tacos, Yum Bun, and Dogtown Hotdogs.
Model Market will also offer four bars on site: The Craft Beer Bar, Slushy Bar, Rum Shack, and Winyl, a wine and vinyl themed establishment.
It will take place on Fridays and Saturdays from June 20th to September 27th.
